Spring 2010. Well done to the Hockey team who came second at Yorkshire and then went on to win the Northern Area competition. Good luck at the National Finals. Congratulations to the senior public speakers who won the Yorkshire competition and went on to represent Thirsk at the Northern Area round. Before Christmas the club welcomed an exchange visit of a group of Young Farmer's from Moycraig YFC in Northern Ireland. We had a fantastic weekend showing them the sights and made some great friends. In Ferbruary, 10 Thirsk members flew back over to Northern Ireland and had a brilliant weekend. Thanks to Moycraig for being such great hosts. ----------------- The club attended the dangerous but highly entertaining Raft Race hosted by Easingwold YFC. With only minor injuries our team (Laura, Mike B, Andy S, Pete and Richard C) finished fourth. This was followed by the Cledales Raft Race where the Thirsk team came 4th. At the Northern Area Field Day hosted by Yorkshire YFC at Thirsk Auction Mart, Adam Musgrove, Mathew Keel, and Andy Stonehouse finished 4th in the fence erecting, Emily Bainbridge finished 4th in the wedding cake decorating, and Kirsten Barningham, Helen Sanderson, Mike Stonehouse, and Pete Sanderson also represented Yorkshire in Kite Flying and the Efficiency with Safety competitions. In stock judging Adam Musgrove and Andy Stonehouse qualified to represent the club at the YFYFC Dairy Judging Finals, with Adam finishing 7th in the Intermediates and Andy wining the Seniors to add to his 1st places already won this summer at the YFYFC County Rally and the Yorkshire Show YFC Dairy Judging. There was a fantastic turn out of Thirsk members at the Cledales Rally with the club finishing 3rd overall, closely behind Reeth who came 2nd. The club also won overall trophies for the Cookery Competitions and Novelty Competitions on the Day. In early May, 30 Thirsk YFC members travelled to the National Federation of Young Farmer Clubs Annual General Meeting in Blackpool. This was the largest representation at the convention by any Club from Yorkshire and we all had a brilliant time enjoying the sun, sea and bars! On the 27th April, Thirsk YFC were presented with new club hoodies that were kindly sponsored by Peter Swales from Brockhill's of Yorkshire. Thirsk YFC's annual Race Night raised £750 for charity. Thank you to everyone who attended and became jockeys for the evening! The Yorkshire Rural Rally was held at Thirsk Auction Mart this year. There was a great turn out of Thirsk members with the club finishing 4th overall. Congratulations to the Fence Erecting Team (Andy S, Adam M & Matt K) and the Efficiency with Safety Team (Pete) who qualified for the Northern Area round. Northern Area Weekend held on 21st-22nd March saw the public speaking team finish 7th with the hockey team finishing 4th. Tug of War practice has now started for the Spring Rally Season. At County Sports Thirsk YFC had both a Hockey team (Cledales A) and a Rugby Team (Cledales A). The hockey team (Michelle, Hannah, Helen S, Julie, Rachel and non Thirsk members; Kit, Helen, Louise and Jenny) came 1st and go on to represent Yorkshire at the Northern Area Weekend. The rugby team (Richard C, Pete, Matt K, Dave S, Matthew N, Andy, Richard H, Mark and Northallerton member James B) came fourth. We had two teams competing at the Yorkshire Ten Pin Bowling competition. The B Team (Andy, Pete, Kathryn and Hannah) came 2nd overall with the A Team (Mark, Adam, Lauren and Michelle) came 5th. Special prizes went to Andy S and Michelle for overall points scored. There was a great turn out of members at the YFYFC Clay Pigeon Shoot. Well done to Matt K who shot best from the Thirsk competitors. Well done to the two Public Speaking Teams that represented the Cledales District at the YFYFC competitions at Harrogate. The Senior Team of Andy S, Anna, Hannah and Richard C came 3rd in the Senior Competition. The Intermediate Team of Mike S, Julie S and James B (Northallerton YFC) came 6th. 4 members (Andy S, Pete, Mike S and Alex M) attended the YFYFC Land Rover Rally at Rudding Park, Follifoot. On Tuesday 14th October we held a Reunion night for all past and present members. As well as allowing members to retell stories of their time in YFC the club were able to thank Jennifer Kidson for everything she has done for the club over the past 25 years as a club leader. On Saturday 20th September we held our second foam party 'The Big Bath 2' at Thirsk Auction Mart. Thanks to the popularity of last year, the great venue and enthusiasm and hard work from all club members, leaders and advisory the night was a huge success! PHOTOS COMING SOON! Thirsk YFC would like to welcome everyone back after the summer break; it's great to see so many old and new faces at meetings! The club’s summer break is now fast approaching. So we wish everyone a great summer holiday. Good luck to all of our members who are leaving in September to go to university and we look forward to welcoming some members back who have now finished their degrees. Keep reading the D&S for updates on events over the summer! On Sunday 20th July the club held their first Farm Open Day at the Stonehouse Farm. Thanks to all club members who worked hard all day to make it a success. Thanks also to all the companies who provided prizes for the childrens competitions on the day...Farmway, DairyCo, The British Wool Board, Beefy and Lamby at EBLEX, NFU & Robson's Tractors. Well done to Andy S who competed in senior dairy stock judging at the Great Yorkshire Show and came 1st overall! Darren Hill was awarded a place on a YFC Discovery Exchange Trip to Austria for 6 weeks. We hope he has a great time while he's away! Well done to our Northern Area's Got Talent team (Lauren & Jenna B, Julie S, Adam M & Darren H) and our fence erecting team (Andy S, Adam M & Sam H from Great Smeaton YFC) who competed at the Northern Area Field Day. Both teams finished 6th in their competitions. Congratulations to everyone that competed at the County Rally at Pateley Bridge. We had a great day despite the weather! Well done to everyone who won prize cards especially Andy S who came 2nd in Senior Dairy Judging and qualified for the next round. Following the success of last years foam party, the club are now planning ‘The Big Bath II’ on 20/09/08. Over 150 clubs have already been invited! We held our Duck Race in late May on Codd Beck. Thanks to everyone that sponsored ducks as we raised £350 for our two charities…The Yorkshire Air Ambulance & Thirsk Christmas Lights Fund. Well done to Pete Sanderson who had the winning duck! In May the club competed in the District Rally, held at Masham. Well done to everyone that entered competitions as we came third overall! Also well done to everyone that qualified for the next round.
